CARL MARIA OEFFINGER

Engineer Carl M. Oeffinger worked at the department R & D personal care of Braun AG for many years and was one of the developers of the gas-powered curling iron (hairdresser on the road)

In 4 years of development, Carl Oeffinger now has developed a novel method of attachment for the hair industry. First he experimented with conventional hook and loop fasteners, but there were no satisfaying results.

Finally, the solution consisted of fine locking elements which are arranged structurally in a way that they penetrate the hair and can connect with themselves. The fixing element of the Wellgrow INtensions is extruded from polypropylene. The soft plastic is chemically inert and completely harmless. Thus no hair damage neither by heat, chemicals nor metals will occur.

The secret was revealed by scientific studies. At the feet of a gecko there are microthin fibres (500 times thinner than human hair). This fibre generates a force of attracion towards the grounding, the socalled „van der Waals forces“. By the sum of many small forces, the gecko keep his body weight upside down from the ceiling.

The fixing element of Wellgrow Extensions also uses the sum effect of small forces. On one square centimeter of the fixing element there are 300 microscopic anchor-shaped closure elements that ensure in total a tight fit on the head. They are designed in such manner that they canconnect with themselves and thereby penetrate the hair of the head."
